CDA HL7 v2.x Interoperability

Course description

Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) is part of the HL7 v3 standard. It is well known that HL7 v3 was a failure in terms of adoption, but within all its components, CDA is the most widely used, given that HL7 v2.x does not have an effective way to represent clinical documents. CDA was widely adopted in the United States, both in its native form and in its variants CCD, C-CDA and greenCDA, and also in Latin America. This workshop summarizes the most important aspects of CDA, based on multiple projects in which we have participated, both for defining and storing documents, and for communicating documents between different systems.

Objective

The main objective of the workshop is for students to acquire practical knowledge in the design and implementation of clinical documents following the HL7 v3 CDA standard. The focus will be on solving the most common problems, following best practices and learning to use the available tools for designing these HL7 clinical documents.

It has a practical orientation, including the introduction to the foundational concepts of HL7 v3 and CDA that are necessary to make the most of the workshop.

Why is it needed?

Today it is difficult for health information system projects not to mention the use of CDA at some point. But the task of designing electronic clinical documents that follow the CDA specifications is not trivial; it requires in-depth knowledge of the HL7 v3 standard and XML. This workshop emerges as a response to help reduce the gap between the practical needs in health informatics projects and the formality and correctness that implementing the CDA standard implies.

Who is it for?

This workshop is of interest to all professionals or advanced students from both IT and clinical areas. Knowledge of UML and XML is recommended.

Certification

PARTICIPATION certificates will be issued to all students enrolled in the workshop.

COMPLETION certificates will be issued to those who complete practical tasks and have an evaluation score above 6/10.
