Online education program

We provide a comprehensive and unique training program, focused on improving skills in areas related to health information systems, standards, interoperability and technologies.

Most of our courses and workshops are taken by professionals who actually work or want to work on this area, but also by professionals who want to know more about current methodologies, technologies and standards to know what they need to improve on their companies. This includes team leaders, projects managers, and CTOs.

HL7 CDA Clinical Documents Design and Implementation Workshop

This workshop exposes all the steps needed to design and implement valid HL7 CDA clinical documents in real software systems, allowing students to code and test every aspect of the CDA implementation. It includes an introduction to the HL7 v3 specifications, the CDA model, clinical document design process, XML generation, validation, processing, and visualization, usage of standard terminologies and CDA implementation guides.

Clinical Information Modeling with openEHR Archetypes and Templates

This course is aimed at experts in the clinical domain (doctors, nurses, technicians) who seek to delve into Health Informatics, focusing on the specification of clinical records.

The objective of the course is to provide knowledge, techniques and technologies, from theory and practice, oriented to modeling and implementation of electronic clinical records. Topics include: clinical modeling with openEHR, the editorial process of archetypes and their life cycle, design principles, validity rules, knowledge management concepts. We will also see general modeling techniques such as UML and Mind Maps.

openEHR Fundamentals and Implementation

Learn about the openEHR standard and the tools available for it's implementation, with the aim of improving the quality of software in healthcare, making generic, flexible, adaptable, extensible, interoperable, maintainable and future-proof systems.

The student will be trained in modeling of clinical content through the archetype formalism, to be used in software as an external source of knowledge instead of hardcoding that knowledge within the software increasing development and maintainability costs and jeopardizing the viability of long-term projects.

Introduction to programming for non-IT people

The goal of this workshop is to get closer to the basic concepts of programming and how software works, for students and professionals of areas not related with IT, but that are interested on informatics, software and technology, particularly for clinicians, nurses, allied health, and other people related with health care. This workshop will allow you to improve the communication with IT people, allow you to participate on health IT teams, and better understand current technical decisions and be part of future decisions in e-health projects.

Interoperability between Health Information Systems

This is the first Course of Interoperability between Healthcare Information Systems that includes practical work with international standards such as HL7, DICOM and openEHR.

Covers different communication protocols such as TCP, MLLP, HTTP and SOAP, interchange formats such as ER7, JSON and XML, and the use state-of-the-art tools for the implementation and verification of interoperability between systems.

Design and Implementation of REST APIs in Health Care Workshop

The REST API approach is currently the most popular way of implementing Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), specially for connecting Web and Mobile apps.

On this workshop we'll see how to design REST APIs step by step, including techniques and good practices to high quality APIs, how to design resources, endpoints, and representations, including implementations technologies and tools for testing. All focused on the health care domain.

Clinical Database Design and Implementation with openEHR

This is the first course on Design and Implementation of Clinical Databases with the openEHR standard. This advanced course focuses on the implementation of clinical repositories and is aimed at IT professionals and students.

Topics covered include the introduction of clinical repositories requirements, the openEHR Information Model, Techniques and Technologies that facilitated the Design and Implementation, using openEHR Archetypes in software, and advanced concepts such as version control and Service Oriented Architectures.

Health Information Systems Usability Workshop

Usability is a software quality characteristic, and in general software developers don't invest much time on this area. The result is the software does what it should do but not in the best way from the user's point of view.

Clinicians are a very specialized type of user, and they should see systems as tools not as blockers for their work. This is key for a successful implementation of software in health care.

On this workshop we'll understand good practices, techniques, and patterns to assess and improve usability of health care information systems.

Health Information Systems Implementation with openEHR

This course is focused on sharing knowledge and good practices, based on years of experience, about using the openEHR standard to create clinical software.

openEHR is an international open standard that allows to create flexible, maintainable and interoperable software in healthcare, enabling the integration with other standards for information interchange, like HL7 v2.x, CDA, FHIR, and DICOM, and with terminology standards like SNOMED CT.

On this course you'll learn how to use the standard and available tools to model clinical documents, generate user interfaces, validate clinical data, store and retrieve clinical data, and exchange clinical data.

Hospital Information Systems Architecture Workshop

This workshop allows to get a comprehensive understanding of the different systems that compose the software architecture in a hospital, focused on the clinical layer. The clinical layer is composed by all the systems that are related to health care, clinical decision, diagnostic services, and clinical management.

EHRServer Implementation and Management Workshop

EHRServer is an open platform for storing, integrating and sharing clinical records. It provides a generic and very flexible solution to implement clinical data repositories compliant with the openEHR standard. This workshop will show how to work with the EHRServer, how to manage clinical records and how to integrate medical recording and visualization apps, with a very practical approach.

Mirth Connect Interoperability Workshop

This workshop is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with the HL7 messaging standard and Mirth Connect: the best open source Integration Engine for healthcare. The workshop has practical orientation, based on the execution of different integration scenarios using HL7 messages, XML and JSON documents, and standard communication protocols like TCP, MLLP and HTTP.
